In the northern town of Fatsa, the army said that the clothes and aid parcels donated by the citizens to the relief organization Red Crescent of Turkey, Kızılay, for the needy were found stored in the illegal dormitories of the İsmailağa Community. The Red Crescent director said, “There is nothing wrong with this situation.”
Following the Marash-based earthquakes, the Turkish Red Crescent, Kızılay, which caused a scandal by selling the tents it had in its inventory to volunteer aid organizations and companies while leaving the earthquake victims empty-handed, just created another scandal. It turned out that the clothes sent by the citizens for the needy in the Fatsa district of Ordu were kept in the illegal dormitories belonging to the Yavuz Sultan Selim Foundation affiliated with the İsmailağa Community.
İsmailağa Religious sect is known for its very close business and religious ties to the Erdogan regime. The close relationship with the Turkish regime allows the sect to conduct business without hindrance and, behind the scenes, disregard any rules, regulations, or laws. Only recently, the fundamentalist, secretive sect was in the headlines because its leader had “married” his very young daughter to another sect member.
According to Onur Durmuş from BirGün, in the Mustafa Kemal Paşa neighborhood of the Fatsa District of Ordu, aid parcels belonging to the government agency the Red Crescent, Kızılay, were found in the building used as a dormitory for the Ismailağa Community and the Yavuz Sultan Selim Foundation, where children between the ages of 10 and 16 wearing turbans and robes were given “religious education.”
Only a few days ago, the Istanbul Greater Municipality, held by the opposition party, forcefully demolished the illegally built buildings of the secretive sect because they violated every rule, regulation, and building code.
The head of the Red Crescent branch confirmed
In the images obtained by BirGün, the new clothes donated by the citizens to the Kızılay to be sent to the earthquake zone are kept in the warehouses of the illegal dormitory and left there to rot. It was found that the aid parcels belonging to the Red Crescent were opened irregularly, and the clothes were scattered on the floor.
Kızılay Fatsa Branch President Adil Keskin spoke to BirGün about the aid parcels in the illegal dormitory. Adil Keskin said they used the warehouse with a relationship of love and did not have any signed contracts. He added, “We have a building that is used as a wedding hall belonging to Kızılay, but we cannot use it because it is rented. We had to use this warehouse because we did not have the budget to hire a new warehouse. The aid materials that came with the trucks were removed from the boxes to prevent mold because they got wet.”
On our question, “Why did you choose the illegal religious sect dormitory?” Keskin said, “We chose this place because the budget of Kızılay was insufficient for us to buy a warehouse in this region. In small places, these businesses usually are conducted with gratitude. We knew that this place was a dormitory, but we think this situation has no harm.”
