After arresting several journalists and detaining even more last week, the Turkish government decided to tackle the lawyer issue this week. In a move against the lawyers, the government ordered the detention of 6 lawyers in Diyarbakır, and 4 more in the city of Urfa.
Following the court orders to “catch” them, two lawyers’ offices were raided by the police and the lawyers detained and taken under custody. The lawyers’ homes were also raided and searched by the cops. More detentions when the attorneys-at-law are “cought” could be expected in the following days.
While the government refused to disclose the reason, the Association of Freedom Justices (Özgürlükçü Hukukçular Derneği) reported that the attack could be due to lawyers seeing their clients and consulting about their cases in courts.
