All detained people are either members or local leaders of the opposition pro-democracy party HDP.
HDP is under attack by the ruling AKP party as AKP is losing votes and is facing a devastating split in the recent days. It sees escaping from its woes necessitates the attacks and even closure of the opposition HDP. HDP has been the only champion of democracy together with other left movements as Turkey slips more towards a fascist dictatorship every day.
One detained person is Dr. Derya Etem is the head of the Chamber of Physicians in Mardin. Dr. Etem’s office was also raided and searched as well.
A special order was obtained by the police to prevent the detainees to see their lawyers for 24 hours.
