Lawyers From all the Bar Associations of Turkey Demand the Release of Women Under Detention for Protesting Assaults on Women.
The Union of Bar Associations of Turkey, TBB, representing the entire 81 district Bar Associations, condemned the latest police attack on women. On December 6th, the women organisations had organised a mass dance to protest the attacks, rapes, murders and beatings of women. These incidents are on the rise in Turkey with the step-by-step installment of an Islamic rule. However, the police had attacked and clubbed the women. Many dancers and organizers had been beaten and detained.
The TBB repeated the words the women chanted against the police while being dispersed, “Stop the murders instead of stopping the women.”
The Union of Bar Associations were joined by another women’s association, the Commission of Women’s Justice, TÜBAKKOM, in protesting the police.
There are 7 women still being detained by the police for protesting on December 8. Lawyers of the Bar demanded the immediate release of those detained.
