There is no doubt that there is no democracy when academics signing peace petitions lose their jobs, are banned from public service, are stripped off their passports and treated as terrorists. There is no doubt that there is no democracy when minority rights are violated. There is no doubt that there is no democracy when politicians are imprisoned. There is no doubt that there is no democracy when websites and social media are blocked. There is no doubt that there is no democracy when journalists, writers and cartoonists are imprisoned. There is no doubt that there is no democracy when newspapers and political websites are shut down. There is no doubt that the Erdoğan government is establishing a deeply authoritarian regime.

There is no doubt that solidarity with those facing repression is needed.

There is no doubt that any dictatorship sooner or later comes to an end when the people come to see through the lies and demand an alternative.
