During an interview, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmus said, “We want to end the state of emergency in about 1.5 months. During this time the European Human Rights Agreement is on hold!”
Kurtulmus also said he wished no other reason will come about to extend the state of emergency.
On suspending the Human Rights, Deputy PM said, “This decision will be declared soon. No steps will be taken that violates the basic rights and freedoms. We have given a guarantee on these. The state of emergency was declared to clean out the gang that attempted the coup”
Kurtulmus also said steps could be taken to restructure the Turkish army. He said the real issue was to “open the army to the nation.” Answering a question, he said opening the army to those graduating from religious schools and bringing the army under the Ministry of National Defense were being discussed.
