The tourists surviving from the bomb attack at Istanbul Ataturk airport were taken to Taksim, Gezi Park by public busses. Also tourists who checked out of a hotel and willing to go home were at Gezi Park. The police said to the tourists wanting help that they could wait at Gezi Park.
After that Istanbul City Defense has send a tweet to Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin,
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) and Beyoğlu Municipality: “Send an authorityand support, not police.” Istanbul City Defense called people to the Taksim Square for solidarity: “ Hundreds of people are suffering in Taksim Square! We need people speaking foreign language and living around.”
Wıth the pressure put by Istanbul City Defense only Turkish Airline offered free accommodation for their passengers. Other people who has flight with other companies were left alone. The voluntaries of Istanbul City Defense contacted with the hotels for the tourists. However there were no authorities around.
