The Rojava Solidarity and Aid Association has launched an emergency aid campaign with the help of several organizations on behalf of residents attempting to survive amid the Turkish government’s continued siege in the country’s Kurdish provinces
The Rojava Solidarity and Aid Association has launched an emergency aid campaign with the collaboration of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) and a number of other groups to provide humanitarian assistance to the residents of Cizre, Silopi, Dargeçit, Nusaybin, Derik, Silvan, Sur and other areas that have been subjected to long-running sieges by Turkish government forces.
“We are all calling on all people of conscience,” said Rojava Solidarity and Aid Association co-chair Mustafa Ocaklık. “In the first phase, the coordinating committee is conducting work to determine the needs in [Diyarbakır’s historical] Sur district so that assistance can be distributed properly. Similar committees will soon be formed in other provinces to meet the needs [of residents].”
A portion of Mustafa Ocaklık’s call for aid is as follows:
Because of continuing curfews and states of siege in Cizre, Silopi, Dargeçit, Nusaybin, Derik, Silvan and Sur, there are increasing violations of residents’ fundamental rights to shelter, health, nutrition and, especially, life. As such, an emergency assistance campaign has become essential.
Duly, we have established a central coordination body. In the first phase, the coordinating committee is conducting work to determine the needs in [Diyarbakır’s historical] Sur district so that assistance can be distributed properly. Similar committees will soon be formed in other provinces to meet the needs [of residents].
We are all calling on all people of conscience.
We are calling for the support of our patriotic people, persons of conscience, as well as defenders of the fraternity and solidarity of peoples.
Basic needs such as food, winter clothing, blankets, supplies for children and babies, as well as cleaning supplies are our current priority.
Those outside of [Diyarbakır] can send aid to our association’s address; likewise, those outside the province can send donations of food and clothing via Diyarbakır bus firms.
Above all else, it is necessary to immediately lift the curfews and end rights violations to put an end to this humanitarian catastrophe.
Negotiations must begin once more in the interests of providing that which our people fundamentally need: peace.
We invite all people of conscience to support our campaign with their donations to help meet the needs of residents in the districts listed above.
