You know things are not going well for the Turkish government when you hear their desperate attempts at hiding the real perpetrators behind the Ankara terrorist attacks. Maybe they don’t even try anymore and have decided to make fun of the situation. It may be funny if there were not 128 dead bodies and body parts lying around in pools of blood. There were times when the Turkish state would try to explain away its crimes, but at least what was said had a slight chance of being taken seriously. This time around the Turkish state went from ridiculousness to outright stupidity.
First of all, when the bombs hit the pro-peace rally a handful of police standing guard at the very outskirts immediately fled. They even left their cars abandoned with the keys hanging in the ignition. Although the police disappeared from the scene at the time the bombs exploded, a mob of cops at the other side of the street closed the road and prevented the ambulances from reaching the dead and the more than 500 wounded. Calling for help, screaming for someone to take a seriously injured man bleeding on the ground, two activists from the popular left organization Peoples’ Houses waited for an ambulance to arrive. However, the police were holding the ambulances from reaching the square. So, the activists looked around and they were able to spot couple of abandoned police vehicles. There was one police car that had been driven into the crowd by a fleeing cop. That did not but another abandoned police vehicle had the keys dangling from the ignition. The police were gone and they needed a car to rush the dying patient to the hospital. They took the police car, loaded the bleeding man and drove off, headed for the hospital. On the way, when they saw a group of police at an intersection they stopped and told the police what had happened and what they were doing. Both were immediately arrested for transporting a wounded person to the hospital. Did we mention that in the last 3 recent massacres in Turkey, all against the opponents of the government, not a single person was even named as a suspect, forget being arrested.
Things even go downhill from there.
During the hours that followed the blasts, close to 500 wounded were taken to the nearby hospitals. Many lives were saved due to nurses and doctors associations participating in the rally. Health care workers already in the plaza immediately started helping the wounded. During this time the police finally reached the square but while still not allowing the ambulances to get through, started pepper spraying the wounded and the dying. Although the Turkish state later denied the report of gassing the victims, videos taken at the scene show the police action at work that leaves no doubt on how they targeted the people on the ground with tear and pepper gas. But even under these conditions Turkish state named the suspects. The guilty, we are told by the state, were those who needlessly sent calls for blood donations to the wounded! It was earlier reported how the government tried stopping any blood donations by announcing there was no need for blood. Now, the Ministry of Health officials inform us that those who asked blood donations were not health officials and because of them 150 people lined up to give blood. And, we are told, due to people who donated blood, the entire hospital systems came to a gridlock and services were not provided to those in need. Now that the criminals were identified, the Ministry of Health is working with the prosecutor’s office for a crime investigation against those who asked people to donate blood.
Did we also mention that the Prime Minister Ahmet Davudoglu announced today that the government had information, names and addresses of a gang of ISIL terrorists who received training from a high ranking jihadist bomb expert on how to assemble a bomb and attack crowds. However, these would be suicide bombers, said the Prime Minister, would not be arrested before they exploded a bomb in a crowd! You see, Turkey is a country of law and order. Yeah, take that you commies!
