Turkish police is on the offensive against the Kurdish citizens of the country. Since last elections on June 7th, unable to form a government, the ruling AKP (Justice Development Party – JDP) started a civil war that targets the 15-20% of the population, the Kurds.
To prevent sudden and violent attacks, Kurds have been digging trenches on their streets planned to stop military and police from entering the residential streets and murdering civilians. Another defensive measure the Kurds are taking is hanging blankets and bed sheets, as they do for drying laundry, yet this time on the streets. This prevents either the Turkish army, the police or the “special forces” from shooting people on the streets minding their own business.
Yesterday, in Nuasaybin, a town in the province of Mardin, the Turkish police came to a residential neighborhood, reported the Özgür Gündem daily, to close the trenches. Frustrated from doing construction work and scared for being in the Kurdish district, the police caught a 15 year old resident of the neighborhood and claimed, as they often do, that the boy threw fire crackers at them.
Instead of arresting the “suspect” the police decided to punish him at the scene by brutally beating and torturing him while the residents watched helplessly.
After their violent assault thinking the boy was dead, the police threw his limp body on the sidewalk and left, apparently leaving him there to “teach a lesson” to the Kurds.
In a recent smuggled video, the Turkish police and “special forces” had attacked a construction site, tied the hands of all the Kurdish construction workers behind their backs and forced them on the ground, face down. Then the police swore and threatened the Kurdish workers and warned them that “they will finally understand how powerful the Turks are” and will make the Kurds know the “power of the Turks” in the scandalous video. Shouting at the workers, the chief also asked the Kurds, “What in the hell did this state do to you, bastards?” Of course, the police chief did not remember that as just one example of the war waged against the Kurds in the 1990’s, the Turkish state murdered about 40,000 of its own citizens and forced tens of millions to migrate from their lands and burned down entire villages and forests in Eastern Turkey.
Following up on their threats in the viral video to show the “power of the Turks on the Kurdish citizens” the racist police this time apparently targeted a 15 year old to show what they could do.
The neighbors immediately took the child to a nearby hospital when the police found it unnecessary to call an ambulance because they thought they had already killed the boy.
The Kurdish victim is still in the hospital under intensive care.
