Turkish fascist state decided to “teach the Kurds the power of Turks” and declared a 7 straight day and nights of curfew on the residents.
Military and police took over the Kurdish town and even though the “security officers” enjoyed the state supplied rations they still looted the closed stores for their own consumption leaving the residents behind without food, drink, medical care or any other basic needs.
Tens of people, including a 35 day old baby, older women and even a 75 year old civilians were killed by the Turkish security forces during the bloody takeover of the Kurdish town.
To break the deadly Turkish embargo and siege the neighboring villagers heeded the call of the progressive, pro-Kurdish party HDP and started marching in the thousands towards the town of Cizre. When the Turkish military and the police blocked the road leading to Cizre, the vehicles were abandoned and thousands spread to the fields, hills and mountains leaving the stupefied Turkish military holding tight to their guns and blocking an empty road.
Thousands marched, some even barefoot, over the mountains and hills, over rocky terrain and valleys for days and nights to reach the town of Cizre. The police and the military tried stopping the advance of thousands by firing or gassing, but soon found out they were comically outnumbered by the scattered crowd over the hills showing solidarity with the stranded residents of Cizre.
Led by the head of the progressive HDP, Selahattin Demirtas, the crowd finally broke through the siege and entered the outskirts in time for the Turkish state to lift the curfew.
The crowd however was met with Turkish forces and artillery fire. Forced to wait at the outskirts of town, “march of peace” finally forced its way into downtown despite threats, harassment and open aggression from Turkish forces.
Daily Ozgur Gundem reports the press release read by the head of Silopya HDP offices Emin as, “Everyday tens of people are being murdered by the barbarism of the Turkish state in the 8 days of siege. They have already given the death penalty to the town of Cizre. (President) Erdogan and his followers and the gangster government have a sworn hatred against the Kurds. They declared they will continue the siege here and on other parts until not even a single person is left.”
Emin also added, “During our Peace March, we were forced to vineyards, they fired tear gas on us, they started firing on us even before we got close to them, they shot us with gas canisters. It is obvious what they want, they want to draw blood. They are executing their orders to murder civilians.”
As reported in daily Ozgur Gundem, Emin then called for support and solidarity, “We seek support from progressives and those sensitive to human plight. We did not leave our Cizre residents alone under the blockade. We want the world to hear us; we want them to join their voices with ours.”
