Delegation passes in to region, press prohibited
After communicating and receiving permission from the Hakkari Governor, a 100-person civilian delegation, led by former BDP deputy Esat Canan, set out to the Dağlıca to collect the corpses of the soliders.
While 50 people of the committee were allowed to pass in to Dağlıca, the soldiers on duty did not allow journalists to pass through. A second delegation that tried to enter the area was also not allowed past checkpoints.
16 corpses acquired
Canan was quoted by the Turkish BBC, saying, “We entered the prohibited region, and the corpses were on the ground. Together with the people of the delegation, we have gathered the bodies. We have delivered them to the military and are now returning. Right now, there no combat taking place in the area that we entered. We do not know if there are any civilians who are lost or wounded.”
He continued in his statment, explaining, “Since yesterday, the corpses were on the ground and were not being taken. As an intiative formed by the public, we had to go to the area. As a former deputy, I promised that I would intervene and take responsibility of the corpses. We have not come across any losses on the part of the PKK; we do not have any information concerning that subject. Pictures of the civilian delegation collecting the bodies were published by DİHA:
