Women and LGBTQ members are getting together against the recently increasing sexual harassment and violence incidents in Kadıköy.The meeting place for the protest is Ayvalıtaş Square at 20.30 on 28th of January.
Here is the explanation text for the protest:
‘’LOOK OUT! THERE IS SEXUAL HARASSMENT!
It’s an invitation to get together against sexual harassment incidents in Kadıköy recently.
Sexual harassment or violence is all kind of sexual actions that happens without any consent of an individual.
Experiencing a sexual violence is not a shame for us! It’s a shame for who’s done it. People who experience this violence are not sick or guilty. What makes us sick is the public morality which gives the idea that this kind of incidents should be keeping quiet!
Every single woman experienced sexual violence at least once in their lives. Do not forget that!
The victim that is forced to marry her rapist, that is declared scarlett or dishonorable, that is “not believed” as a result of the sexual violences “domestic or not”, happening in the household, or the male dominant system that protects the offender performing the sexual violence causes the murder of another woman everyday, silences the women and leads them to be violence victims and sex slaves to their partners.
‘’Corrected rapes’’ on LGBTQ members, the mistake of thinking sex workers like they have the consent for every kind of sexuality and at the same time assuming every single LGBTQ member as a sex worker, fantasizing them and even more assuming every person who came out as a heterosexual (people who like the opposite sex) or assuming people who have the sex according to their ‘’look’’ are also a harassment and sexual violence.
Being quiet against child abuse is not protecting the child. Not believing the child, keep on seeing the harasser or the raper just for the relations is an unaccepted mistake. Whatever the harasser says it is not acceptable or forgivable!
The idea of the purpose of Erasmus students are coming to Turkey just for sex is causing unbearable pressure, making them a clear target and an invitation to violence. Without any exceptions no one can touch anyone’s freedom of being in the streets or body as a hall.
Sexual violence is one of the most common problems for all of us without discriminating any ideology, point of view or lifestyle. We will speak and shout about this problem on 28th of January! At 20:30(08.30pm) we will meet to prepare our slogans. Then we will meet at Ayvalıtaş Square at 21:00(09:00pm) to say ‘’Streets don’t belong to harassers! It is ours!’’ without any flag and with only women and LGBTQ members.
We are stronger when we get together. Come with your whistle, siren, pot and pan!
Come with your scream and voice!
Come and let’s make sound together!
Streets, squares, parks, gardens are ours!
Women and LGBTQ Members’’
