We, who defend their olives, water, coasts and woods;

Reclaim their forests, orchards and farms…

Resist for their cities, stations, parks, neighbourhoods, houses and squares…

Labour in death both sevenfold under and over the ground…

We are together!  In order to defend nature, labour, Marmara and Istanbul all together!

 I am the only trachea of this mare’s head galloping from Far Asia and jutting out into the Mediterranean! I became from the converging of a blond sea and a black sea. I was born as the son of mother Cybele, Tammuz, under the shadow of Ida full of springs and mother of beasts, where the earth and rivers gave life to an almond tree. Each time the tyrants killed me, milk flowed from my veins and the tree I was hang gave black olive seeds…

Now, for the love of 6 thousand olive trees killed in Yırca at down; animals dismissed from their habitats; Ergene river poisoned with chemical wastes; Dilovası plane destroyed; Sapanca lake dried up; hundred thousands of trees cut in the northern forests; workers killed for peanuts in mines sevenfold under the ground and in construction sites sevenfold above the sky; cities slaughtered; schools evicted and squares closed for their people, I call you. People of Marmara, people of Istanbul, hear once more the voice of life and hope!

This place is Marmara, the motherland of converging and meetings… I call you to meet on 28^th of December, in Istanbul, at Kadıköy Square, flowing like a great and fertile river, in order to defend your nature, labour, your neighbourhood and cities:

I call you to defend the sunlight and confusion upon the steps of the Haydarpasha Station, against those who with infinite fancies erect unlawful palaces in our life areas and declare the people banned in their own squares…

I call you to defend the right to life of the faint deer, the water-drinking ant, the guest stork, the scaled fish, smiling seals, drown pigs, proud eagles and the children and deep spots, against those who tyrannize against all creatures, the poor and the children…

I call you to defend Ergene and Çorlu rivers and the Sapanca lake, the farms in Trace and Balıkesir; the sunflower, olive and rice; mountains of Çanakkale and Trace and the islands, against those who erect temples of money in our earthquake safety areas; who open our graveyards, islands, parks and woods for construction; poison our soil with chemicals and genetically modified seeds and dry out our water…

I call you to defend your wood, orchard, forest and water with the insistence of Yırca, the resistance of Validebağ, the anger of Torunlar and the patience of Istranca, against over surrounding organised industrial zones, thermal and nuclear plants, cyanide gold, stone and mine pits. I call you to share the sisterhood of a big struggle for life in order to stop the great natural and urban destruction reaching from the first bridge in Istanbul to the fourth bridge in Çanakkale, from the shopping centres to the urban thermal plants, from ammoniac tanks like atomic bombs to organised chemical industries. I call you to reclaim your schools, hospitals and neighbourhoods, against those who deprive the disabled children from their schools; use religion as a shield for plunder; close the hospitals; erect palaces of profit, sites of murder, and giant construction sites next to the so-called risky areas, the neighbourhoods.

Do not forget: Barbarism is at our gate! Barbarism violates the rights of nature and labour everywhere! Do not forget: This time the only real fact: Either all of us or none of us!

Our rich agricultural soils in Trace and Anatolia are poisoned by precarious factories of leather, paint, textile, metal and chemicals plundering our first class drinking water and genetically modified seeds, in order to make Istanbul a city of finance, heaven of real estate and a Game Park of capital. The mega projects, thermal plants, hydro electric plants which dry the water of Istanbul condemn us to drought in order to enrich the companies making our mothers cry.  The great dump of unguided industrialisation, Marmara, is now driven to its second great destruction by the plunderers of the cities and nature. Istanbul is sacrificed for the interests of a handful of companies and Marmara is sacrificed for Istanbul. And the cities where we die from cancer, mines and construction sites where we are murdered by work homicides rise so rapid and proud since we are all together exiled from our enclosed soils, meadows, life areas and neighbourhoods.

Do not forget: From the Validebağ woods to Yırca; from the Northern Forests to Bozcaada; from Bursa to Okmeydanı, Istanbul and Marmara is now the common area of defence for all of us, with its forests, valleys, schools, hospitals, neighbourhoods and squares. The only source of legitimacy of our defence is our right to defend the nature and our cities and our growing solidarity. Malfunctioning law, construction site police forces, pepper gases, reasonable doubts, private security cops, gangs, media and growth lies only defend the power of a handful of plundering companies.

We defend Istanbul and Marmara against those who defend cash and the power of cash under the name of growth. We defend sharing equally and fairly like a forest and living and producing free like a tree, against those who spend labour, nature, human beings and life they degrade and consume under the name of development. We stand up to defend the rights of the nature, the earth, the water and the cities against those who profit from human blood, in nature killing organised industrial zones, mines, construction sites by sweeping the peasant from the soil and the poor from the neighbourhood.

We call you to grow our hope by defending Istanbul, Marmara and life!

We call you to defend life at each tree, at each house, at each square and as a whole!

We call you to all together to build a new citizen’s law due to which the highest law is the basic rights of its citizens and mean equal and fair distribution with the word of growth; “a beautiful country and a humanly neighbourhood” by defending life.
