One of the main demands of Gezi Park Resistance, which is spread all over the country, is opening the public spaces, city squares to people and the elimination of prohibitions related to meeting and protest rights. Barely, the resistance have already emancipated the neighbourhoods, squares and streets of cities.

İstanbul: People captured the Taksim Square, neighbourhoods and town halls are all protest areas.
This is an emblematic resistance of defending public urban space and emancipating the Taksim Square against government’s unprogressive, capital-centric aggression. With this resistance a lot of experiment occurred related to public’s right to speak and how to go beyond prohibitions.
Protesters captured the Taksim Square and gained the initiative after withdraw of police forces following struggles. Besides, people are redefining their own publicity and rewriting public and urban rules which are determinated by ruling class all over the Anatolia.
Against government’s fascist hegemonic policy over main urban public areas, people are generating a new form of policy with capturing the squares and building barricades and roadblocks.
Regulations of Government’s legal and actual order from meeting prohibitions to booze restrictions, imposed security concepts to moral norms, de facto street prohibitions over women to prohibitions related to public areas are destroying with resistance.
Struggle against neo-liberal urban policies are merging with struggle for freedom against reactionism and fascism.
İstanbul: People captured the Taksim Square, a new life is establishing in Gezi Park.
Taksim Square was closed to May Day meetings after May Day of 1976 and massacre of May Day in 1977. After the long acting struggles of labour movement and socialists the square reopened to May Day meetings at 2010, solely with the pretence of Taksim Pedestrianization Project, AKP government banned the square again to May Day meetings at 2013. But the resistance of labour movement and trade unions in 1st May of 2013 stigmatized as disregarding of this prohibition. Spokesmen of AKP remarked clearly that demonstrations and meetings are organised at obscure areas of cities. With the Prime Minister’s declarations İstiklal Avenue declared as prohibited area and therewith the attacks on opposed demonstrations becoming usual. With the expanding resistance in Gezi Park, Taksim Square opened to public and furthermore resisters maintained the control. As for that Gezi Park is transformed to a resistance and living space.
While demonstrations in hundreds of neighbourhood at Istanbul are going on, new resistance spaces occurred in town halls.
Ankara: The prohibition related to Kızılay Square is broken, so called prohibited areas are transformed into a resistance spaces.
Upon the attack over Gezi Park resistance and AKP fascism, the address of resistance is Kızılay Square in Ankara. Ankara’s public opposition declared Kızılay Square as a resistance point which has banned for meetings for seven years. The Kızılay Square prohibition is broken by societal opposition, marching in streets of neighbourhoods, students trying to achieve Kızılay Square with roadblocks and high school students which are part of boycotts. Prime ministry and parliamentary were the second aim for demonstrations after Kızılay Square. Police forces are applying excessive force at Ankara because the AKP does not want to lose control like Taksim at Kızılay near the prime ministry as a spatial centre of state and heart of government.
Once again in Ankara at the first day of resistance, thousands of people met at Kuğulu Park for the first time. Some neighbourhoods in Keçiören like 19 Mayıs, Dutluk, Gazino and in Etlik has witnessed demonstrations for the first time in many years.
Almost every day neighbourhood in Dikmen and İlker has met at Ahmet Arif Park and Mahsuni Şerif Park then they merged at Dikmen Avenue and built barricades. NATO Way and Tuzluçayır Square are meeting points for marching except demonstrations before the protests at Mamak. And also neighbourhood of Dostlar has transformed into a demonstration point for the first time too.
Kuğulu Park at the avenue of Tunali Hilmi has served as a resistance point for the young generation. Neighbourhoods in Tunalı, Bestekar, Küçük Esat Avenue, Tunus Boulevard, Seyran Avenue at Seyranbağları, Residence of TOKİ at Gölbaşı, Libya Avanue, Güvenlik Avenue at Ayrancı, Dikmen Valley have merged at Turan Güneş Boulevard and built barricades to cut the traffic. People cut the traffic in Eryaman’s 3rd zone; there hadn’t even been any local demonstration before. People from Çayyolu and Toki residence of Turkuaz closed the Eskişehir Road and also university students from METU and Hacettepe occupied the same road as well. Lastly, Çukurambar which is a common place for deputies is also witnessed demonstrations.
Antalya: Republic Square is opened and tents are built.
Republic Square hasn’t witnessed any meeting for 17 years related to socialist and labour movement except ceremonies of 29 October, but after Gezi Park Resistance this place is emancipated too. Republic square has opened to tents since 5th of June with protests.
Republic Square is the centre of the city and the area of tents is so close to office of governor with 150 meters. In 5th of June’s night, there was a common banner of Antalya Labour and Democracy Forces which is “Minister of The Interior Resign”, “Forbid Tear Gas”, “Don’t touch Taksim Gezi” could be seen along with 2000-3000 people. In the place of tents demands had written into banners related to HES projects, pension conditions, sexual exploitation, and prisoner students. There was a open stand statue for everyone to speak freely.
Bursa: Heykel, Mesken, Teleferik Squares are transformed into demonstration areas.
From the first day of resistance societal opposition entered the Heykel Square where is prohibited for meetings. With the pioneering of socialists, Mesken Square was opened to publicity where is the place only allowed for meetings. Another prohibited place, Teleferik Square, was also closed by public at 1st of June. Tents were built around the Three Sion Memorial in Nilufer all along the night.
Eskişehir: Yunus Emre and prohibited avenue of Atatürk were captured and people were built tents at ESPARK.
Yunus Emre Square were transformed into demonstration area and Police tried to protect the AKP building with excessive power. Atatürk Avenue, as a prohibited place except football matches, was captured by 15 thousand protesters. The neighbourhoods of Eskişehir transformed into demonstration areas and in ESPARK protesters built a huge ‘resistance square’ with tents. Speechs and regulations are going on at open stand and resistance area to run the demonstration. The issue related to demolishing of Atatürk Stadium and building a Shopping Mall was mentioned but protesters are demanding a city square instead of shopping mall.
Kocaeli: Marching Way prohibition was removed; Republic Park was opened to demonstrations after 7 years.
Marching Way has closed to demonstrations for a long time with the prohibition of Kocaeli’s governor but it was opened for resistance. And also Republic Park was opened to demonstrations after 7 years. Before the Gezi Park protests no one was allowed to marching at the front of the AKP building, but it was removed. Thursday Market was transformed into a resistance area where was a meeting place before. In every neighbourhood at Kocaeli, people cut the traffic and join the protest.
Çanakkale: All along the city is demonstration area, Kordon Way prohibition was removed.
With the marching, the prohibition related to Kordon Way was removed. Demonstrations occurred at the front of the AKP building where was banned for demonstration for 6 months. The ways of Çanakkale Public Garden Location was captured by people, including both directions, with 6 km in Esenler neighbourhood at the edge of Çanakkale. Marching from Public Gardens to Kordon, Quay, and Municipality, people cut the traffic toward İzmir, Bursa and Çanakkale Bridge. Thus Çanakkale was transformed into marching area through 15 km.
Mersin: City was transformed into a demonstration realm.
At the front of the Mersin Taşbina and through the direction of Free Children Park and Peace Square was transformed into demonstration area where was the place never used before. Also demonstrations were occurred at Beach Way and Pozcu Avenue where was the incidents never experienced before. Strike demonstrations occurred at Republic Square where a place proper for only May Day events was.
Adana: Marching prohibition was removed.
Societal opposition’s marching has prohibited for a long time in Adana by police forces. But with the resistance process in Gezi Park this prohibition annihilated and streets were emancipated with the protests. The meeting prohibition at Hospital junction was removed. The way between Atatürk Park and Baraj Way, with 45 minutes walking distance, transformed into demonstration realm. Neighbourhoods of Turgut Özal, Akkapı, Tellidere and İkibinevler have experienced demonstrations for the first time.
Artvin: 1. Avenue and front of governorship was opened to demonstrations where was prohibited before.
