Turkish Doctors Union and Istanbul Chamber of Medicine have reacted strongly to the investigation said to be conducted by the Ministry of Health with regard to the voluntary doctors servicing the injured and wounded resisters as of the startup of the Gezi Park resistance.
Turkish Doctors Union (TTB) and Istanbul Chamber of Medicine responded to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Health with regard to the doctors servicing voluntarily the resisters as of May 27rh, the first day of the resistance. Hanging a banner saying “Gezi Park is the very self of life and the doctors are defending life”, the doctors empasized that they are not the doctors of the capital but of the people.
Stating that the response of the Ministry of Health to voluntary doctors to the resisters for the last 18 days was conducting an investigation, the doctors declared that they will continue to do what is necessary with regard to their profession as being the members of a profession to defend the right to live and due to their humane sensitivity.
The doctors have declared on their press release that they will never reveal the name of a single doctor or a resister to the Ministry of Health despite the pressure and the ongoing investigation.
After the issuance of press statement Mr. Ali Cerkezoglu, the Secretary General of Istanbul Chamber of Medicine made a brief speech:
“The resistance continues in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Antakya and in many others. People are resisting. Being the members of healthcare, we will continue to stand by these people. Instead of conducting and investigation about the doctors who went to help the people due to their humane sensitivity and about the Chamber of Medicine, the Ministry of Health should have established emergency infirmaries and should have taken the appropriate measures during this state of emergency. We disregard the investigation being conducted by the Ministry about us. To begin with, we are informing our people against the Minister of Health and declaring that we will make an allegation about the Ministry. We will never reveal the names of the voluntary doctors and our patients to the Ministry.”
