Several student organizations protesting the bombing attacks at Reyhanli, were attacked by the police in Izmir, the third largest city in Western Turkey. Last week, two bombs exploded under very suspicious conditions at downtown Reyhanli, just in time to give Erdogan, the Sunni prime minister of Turkey, enough excuse to beg the US to attack Syria when he visits Obama on May 16th. Reyhanli is a border town where the Turkish government hosts the Jihadist terrorists coming from the Muslim world in camps, where they enter clandestinely into Syria to kill, rape and attack the Syrian population and the regime only to slip back into the safety of the Turkish borders and the protection of the Turkish government.
The bombs, most probably placed by the forces fighting for the Free Syrian Army, or their collaborators in these camps took the lives of more than 50 civilians, a very convenient event that would give the US visiting Turkish prime minister an excuse to either attack Syria or ask the already accommodating US for permission to and assistance for an attack.
Protesting the government’s suspicious involvement and the events that led to this bloody attack, students in Izmir, following other protests across the country staged a march to the offices of the ruling Justice and Development Party (JDP). It is wide spread belief that the bombs were placed by the Jihadist Sunni groups, the same sect that the Turkish prime minister Erdogan belongs, with or without the knowledge of the Turkish government, so that Erdogan could negotiate better with Obama on his visit for attacking Syria. Students in Izmir demanded the government, Erdogan and his Interior and Foreign Secretary to resign. Although the march was peaceful, as in other protests, the Turkish police attacked the demonstrators.
There have been many documented reports and published books that after Erdogan’s government came to power, the police force has been completely infiltrated and taken over by another Sunni religious sect leader Fethullah Gulen who escaped from Turkey to avoid a trial and found refuge in the US with a letter of recommendation from the CIA. Since then the police force became the judge, jury and the prosecutor when even the smallest protest or a press release against the government was confronted by brutal police attacks.
A similar attack occurred in Izmir this time when the students marched yesterday. Many students were beaten by the cops and had serious bruises from the savage attack. While the wounded students were taken to nearby hospitals, 28 others were arrested.
People of Reyhanli, a town mostly inhabited by the Alewi sect known for their more tolerant, progressive, and compassionate beliefs to the animosity of the fundamentalist Sunnis, have been complaining about the impunity of the “refugees” in these camps as they terrorize the town’s citizens. The Jihadists the government protect here have given open statements that every 2 to 3 days they go to Syria to topple the regime there, an illegal act. They also thank on camera the support they receive from the Turkish government and personally Erdogan. These terrorists, enjoying the support and aid also from NATO, US, Saudi Arabia and Qatar attack Turkish women who do not wear head scarves and have threatened the residents that once the Syrian regime is brought under the sheria law, they would then do the same in Turkey. However, even when they brandish weapons and refuse to pay at local restaurants and shops, the Turkish police has been very accommodating and refuse to enforce any laws on these thugs.
When the student organizations in Izmir went to the hospitals to inquire about the wounded demonstrators, the Turkish police renewed their attacks at the hospital this time and brutalized the wounded patients inside the hospital and dragged them on the floors while still beating them with batons.
Turkish government issued a press ban immediately after the bomb blasts in Reyhanli to control the spread of information. However, while most mainstream press honored the ban and refused to publish the news, local people and the left media disregarded the government ban and uploaded many videos of the two explosions, destroyed buildings, the wounded and the dead as well as the outrage of the town folks against the government to social media sites like YouTube. As much as it tried, the government was not able to prevent an immediate spread of the news across the country, and the spontaneous protests charging the JDP, the government and Erdogan with being behind the attacks and with murder.
Under the cover of the night, at 11:30PM, the police arrested and forcefully took the wounded patients from the hospital to the police station for questioning.
